I am a SAHM of two wonderful children. I am the wife of best husband in the world. I am interested in anything that makes my day to day living less expensive.

Save A Dollar

Someone recently asked me what I do for work since I’m always home with my children.  My response was that I don’t do anything.  I don’t have a job.  Well not one that brings in money.  My husband is the bread winner in our house.  But I told her that it’s not only about the money you bring in, but how you save on everyday things as well.

So it got me to thinking.  How do I save a dollar?  Well if you remember from my other posts we use cloth diapers.  With two children in diapers this makes a big difference.  Even if you cant or don’t want to use them 100% of the time they still will cut back on your diaper expense big time.  We also started using cloth towels in the kitchen.  We used to use a TON of paper towels.  We still use a ton just much of it is cloth instead of paper.  I make the baby food, sun dry when we can to save power, buy in bulk, and eat leftovers.  I am also trying to learn to coupon which I’m sure will save me money.  I have recently learned to up-cycle, which is where you take something that was previously made and turn it into something else (like a pillowcase into a toddler dress).

What do you do to save a dollar?

Swagbucks = Free Stuff

I know your thinking ” Excuse me? Did you just say free stuff?”  And the answer is yes. Yes I did.  Now you’re wondering what are swagbucks and how do they work, right?

Well it’s is SO simple.  Swagbucks is a search engine.  Well not just a search engine.  They also have polls, surveys, videos you can watch, and sweepstakes.  By doing things, as simple as searching like you would on any search engine, you can earn points.  When you get enough points you can trade them in to redeem gift cards or prizes.

I recently traded my points in and got Amazon gift cards.  Read the rest of this entry

Making Baby Food

With my son I only made his baby food a couple times and it was stuff we were already eating that I just mashed up and maybe added some water.  This time around I decided I want to make the baby food.  It’s SUPER cheap and can be frozen for months!  That much I knew but really I didn’t know where to start.

So, naturally, I turned to friends who had done it to hear about their experiences.  I did not hear one bad thing.  Everyone who had done it loved the idea of it and the ease of it.  I was referred by many to  It is a great website for questions you may have. Read the rest of this entry

The B Word

You read that right.  I going to talk about the B word.  Which B word you ask?  The one that SO many americans have turned from something beautiful and wonderful into something to hide and sometimes even be ashamed.

Breasts.  Yes, breasts.  Well more specifically, breastfeeding.

It is world breastfeeding week.  A week to announce to the world.  Yes I breastfeed! I do it because I can.  I do it because I should.  I do it because I choose to!  It is not something of which to be ashamed.  It is something that makes me proud to be a mother. Read the rest of this entry

Microfleece Liners

Well the most economical way to cloth diaper you child is probably prefolds and/or flats with covers. They are inexpensive and very easy to clean.  I also like that I have the choice of them helping me help my toddler potty learn.

How?  Well cotton fabrics will keep wetness against your child’s skin.  You toddler most likely wont like that and hopefully will want to potty learn faster.

But what if your baby isn’t ready for potty learning or has sensitive skin?  What if you want to keep your child’s skin dry AND use prefolds and/or flats? Read the rest of this entry

Why I Choose to Cloth Diaper

There are SO many choices to make when it comes to parenting. Like whether or not to co-sleep, breastfeed, use “baby” laundry soap.  Should you wear your baby? Let them cry it out? How much TV is too much? The list is endless.  But one of the many parenting choices that came up when my son was about 7 or 8 months old was should I use cloth diapers?

Choosing to use cloth diapers was not an easy decision to make.  I didn’t want to dismiss it like I had before but give it the effort that every parenting choice I make should get. Read the rest of this entry
